What is it that we all seek? I think the simple answer is everlasting happiness. In today’s world, the definition of happiness is redefined by what the media wants us to understand as happiness. In today’s Gospel reading (Matthew 19:16-22), a man poses this question to Jesus, “Teacher, what good deed must I do, to have eternal life?” Jesus first replies, “If you would enter life, keep the commandments.” The young man replies that he is obeying all the commandments, so what else must he do. Then Jesus gives him the most difficult task of all, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” The man left sad because he could not let go of his treasures. A Simple Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, you have blessed me with so many gifts,
I know that you are the source of all happiness,
Give me the strength to get those things out of my life that I possess more than you.
Help me to make you the greatest treasure in my life.
Yours in Christ
Michael Marcon
